Welcome to my blog on Grassroots Rugby Northern Ireland

Im Alex and I have played rugby all through my school years and a year now of my adult life. I am starting this blog as a part of my digital analytics module but also because the subject is important to me, some people may have certain questions around rugby due to being on the fence whether they want to commit their time and effort to a sport. Hopefully this blog will show you all what rugby has to offer at any level and particularly the grassroots social level of rugby. While also showing the evolution of rugby over the years to the game we know and love today.

Rugby is a sport stereotyped as rough and very physical, which it is but many people don't appreciate how the sport has evolved into the modern day rugby. The sport now is a lot more technical when it comes to coaching and a lot safer in terms of the contact with rules being changed constantly followed by all levels of rugby. The constant evolution of rugby and the rules of the game has always got the players wellbeing as their priority.

Grassroots rugby plays a vital role in communities across Northern Ireland. From town clubs to small rural teams, rugby brings together people of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities through a shared passion for the sport. While the excitement of professional rugby often captures headlines, it is at the grassroots level where the game truly thrives, helping to shape individuals, strengthen communities, and promote healthy lifestyles. Beyond developing future players, grassroots rugby creates opportunities for personal growth, social connection, and physical wellbeing that extend far beyond the touchlines. All of which I intend to cover within this blog listing the positives  of getting involved in your local rugby team and hopefully tackle some questions people may have surrounding reasons they may not be convinced to join just yet.

Future posts to come will include: Social aspects and enjoying the game, Health and wellbeing and finally a deeper insight into clubs and what they can offer in Northern Ireland at a local level.
